HBCSD Recognizes National School Counseling Week

Posted Date: 2/04/25 (6:22 PM)

Huntington Beach City School District (HBCSD) is proud to recognize National School Counseling Week 2025, celebrated from February 3–7, 2025, to highlight school counselors' important role in helping students succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. Sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), this year’s theme, School Counseling: Helping Students Thrive, emphasizes counselors' impact on students’ development and future success.

HBCSD’s school counselors foster student growth by encouraging students to explore their strengths, interests, and talents while guiding them through academic and personal challenges.  Beyond one-on-one support, HBCSD school counselors lead monthly classroom lessons to build social skills and emotional intelligence and help students navigate friendships, stress, and future planning. They partner with families to provide resources and support, ensuring students have the tools to flourish inside and outside the classroom. By working closely with teachers and administrators, they help remove barriers to learning and create a positive, inclusive school environment where all students can succeed.

“Our school counselors are at the heart of student support, helping kids build confidence, overcome challenges, and develop the skills they need to thrive,” said Director of Student Services & Mental Health, Mrs. Cheryl Nord. “They go above and beyond to ensure every student feels seen, supported, and equipped to navigate school and life.”

We encourage students, families, and staff to take a moment to recognize and thank our school counselors for their dedication and the positive impact they make every day.
