What’s Happening?
Maintenance and Operations (M&O) Building Project (File Number 24-485)
Approved by the City Zoning Administrator in June 2024, the M&O Building project is planned for the Kettler site behind the District Office. Following an appeal, the Planning Commission requested a noise study and soils report, which the District submitted in October 2024. Since then, the District has been actively requesting that the City place the project back on the Planning Commission’s agenda for review and approval.
This new facility will:
Centralize essential supplies for school maintenance
Provide safe indoor space for staff currently working outdoors
Improve operational efficiency and reduce neighborhood noise
Support custodial and maintenance services at every campus
Bus Storage Facility Project (Project Number PA-2025-0067)
The District is pursuing the purchase of a property near Gothard and Warner to serve as the permanent location for its transportation operations. The purchase agreement—approved by the Board in February 2025—is contingent on the City granting a Conditional Use Permit (CUP). The site is appropriately zoned for this use and represents the only viable alternative to locating the facility at the Sowers Middle School campus.
The new location would:
Safely store and dispatch District transportation vehicles
Improve response times and efficiency
Remove the need for temporary or shared-use spaces
Be funded without impacting classroom instruction budgets
